Roadrunner

March 23rd, 2008 07:35

640_2135-copy.jpgYesterday, we were visiting with my daughter-in-law and grandsons, who had dropped off a wading pool so that we could bathe Amber, when Debbie said, “There’s a roadrunner on your table!” Sure enough, there was a roadrunner on the patio table, about ten feet from me when I looked out the kitchen window. I got the camera for Shirley and the roadrunner moved to the east end of the patio by the time she got in position to take the picture. She was able to get a few pictures before we lost track of the roadrunner.

Later in the afternoon while I was hand-watering the roses, I heard a short sound by the rear hedge that got my attention. I looked to my left and saw the roadrunner on the far side of the pool. I left the area and went inside through the garage so as to not disturb the roadrunner. Shirley and I watched the roadrunner moving around in the back yard until it disappeared behind some shrubbery.

This morning, “our” roadrunner came back! We watched it for a while as it moved around the yard until it disappeared behind the plants on the west side of the yard close to my office. I went to my office and googled “roadrunner” to read about it. As I was reading about the sound that it makes, I heard the sound and looked for the roadrunner, but couldn’t find it. I continued hearing the sounds for about ten minutes but never did see it again.

MySQL upgrade

February 22nd, 2008 05:44

Switched the blog database to MySQL 5.0. So far, so good!

Learning 2.0

February 9th, 2008 06:40

I subscribe to the blog, Online Learning Update, which had an article on Learning 2.0. It’s the first I’ve heard the term, and it describes much of the learning I do. I encourage my grandchildren to learn all their life and, with the web, it’s easier than ever to find resources. The Learning 2.0 article is, “The boundaries are different with learning 2.0.”

WordPress upgrade trials

February 7th, 2008 11:14

I just upgraded the blog software to WordPress 2.3.3 and had numerous problems, none of which are attributed to WordPress. The problems are the site reconfiguration for the blog. The MySQL database was incorrect because a third-level domain was deleted on the server. The blog address will now be salzer.us/blog and salzerblog.com will point to salzer.us/blog. The previous template was not loaded so that’s another issue to handle. I have to prune the roses now and will config later today!

Palomar College Web Courses

January 31st, 2008 16:37

I’ve just started two online courses at Palomar College, Website Development and JavaScript. I’ve built the skeletons for two relevant websites at http://csis137.com and http://csis138.com. We are required to build a website as a final project for Website Development and I chose to make one for our new dog, Amber, at http://AmberSalzer.com. She has her own website!

Unfortunately, Goldie is no longer with us. She had a tumor in her heart and a number of other problems. I made for Shirley a DVD of Goldie’s life, as we knew it.

I’m excited about the courses as it gives me structure for learning and a legitimate reason to be on the computer. 🙂

Old Pictures

October 27th, 2006 07:51

Yesterday I scanned some old pictures which mostly came from mom and put them in the gallery under the album entitled Fred’s Family. I wanted to get them up quickly (remember, we’re cruisin’ soon!)and therefore didn’t process any of them. Family members who would like copies of the original scans (about 20MB each) need to let me know what is wanted and I’ll put the originals on a server for download. The scans are far too large for email.

Ugly Layout

October 27th, 2006 07:45

I’ve been playing with CSS and made a couple of goofs so please no comments at this time on the layout and color choices. I’m learning!

Cruising!

October 22nd, 2006 09:27

Blog development will be suspended while we cruise the Mediterranean and the Atlantic aboard Oceania Regatta. We’ll have (expensive!) Internet connect time so we’ll get email and little else. We’ll hopefully have fair weather and take many beautiful pictures.

Blog development is going slowly while I’m learning php, style sheets and XHTML a little most every day. I’ve installed Apache, PHP and MySQL so now have a local WAMP configuration.

Picture Test

Goldie I thought I’d see what happens when an image is uploaded.

Page Layout

October 16th, 2006 19:09

I’ve been reviewing the code of various themes, CSS and php to begin the modification of the default theme to create an individual theme for this blog.
